URU meets st company

「URUとst company」

「URU & st company」

We live in a time when almost anything can be acquired without ever leaving home.
And perhaps that is precisely why there is renewed value in places worth making the effort to visit, and in experiences that can only be discovered through the people who bring those places to life.

In Kiryu, Gunma, there is a store that embodies this kind of essential richness.

It is the select shop〈st company〉.

Founded 48 years ago, the store has long been loved by the local community and now attracts visitors from across Japan, including Tokyo. Its appeal extends beyond its carefully curated selection of Japanese and international brands and its distinctive sense of editing. The space itself, designed to bring those selections to life, and above all, the people who welcome and connect with each visitor, are equally integral to what makes〈st company〉what it is.

The current store, which relocated and reopened in 2018, occupies a renovated building that once housed a long-established Japanese sweets shop, its production facilities, and a residence. Within the historic structure, a diverse selection of brands from Japan and abroad sits alongside a gallery space for events and a café.

Guided by the desire to “offer the things we genuinely believe are good,”〈st company〉continues to shape its identity with a fresh perspective, never limiting itself to established brand collections. At the heart of the store is a belief in the value of time spent with visitors and the conversations that emerge there—something that cannot be created simply by selecting products. Perhaps that is why the store has a character that can only truly be experienced here.

The people who work at〈st company〉also have their own distinct styles. From shop staff and café staff to the digital team working behind the scenes, each person plays a different role in bringing this place to life. Here, we take a look at how they wear URU.

“The key is the combination of brown and yellow. I paired these clean, tailored two-pleat trousers with a soft knit polo to add a more feminine touch. I really love the layered looks in URU’s collections. I also suggest them to our customers, and we’re gradually seeing more people become fans of the brand.”
— Kaori Endo, Sales Staff

“This look centers around a zip-up leather blouson with a high-quality leather and a distinctly URU silhouette. I took inspiration from a look combining dark green and purple. URU creates clothes with a sense of contrast. They look simple at first, but once you put them on, there is always something unexpected—a quality that really draws you in.”
— Nobuo Hirabayashi, Sales Staff

“I really like these one-pleat work trousers. The fabric has a great texture, and they’re comfortable to move in while still feeling tough and durable. To let the character of the trousers come through, I kept the top simple with a half-zip. URU makes clothes that feel good to wear. The rounded silhouettes, which are unlike anything else, leave a particularly strong impression.”
— Kentaro Igarashi, Café Staff

“I love the light blue color, so I built this look around this V-neck knit. The weight of the knit is just right, and I like that it feels easy to wear every day. As with this knit, URU has a particularly appealing approach to color—the tones and combinations always feel distinctive.”
— Masumi Oka, E-commerce Staff

URU’s clothes naturally find their place in the everyday lives of the people who work at〈st company〉. Through each individual’s personal style, new expressions of the clothes emerge—expressions that will, in turn, perhaps spark something new in the sensibilities of those who visit this place. We hope these encounters will continue to unfold, again and again.
